What is a Fire Museum
Seminar?
It is a balance of formal presentations, informal
discussions, and a tours of local fire and museum
sites. The tours and topics cover both firefighting
history and museum practices. It's a chance for you
to share you problems, and solutions... An
oportunity to see what others museums are doing
(and perhaps what they are not doing but should
be)... It is a opprtunity to compaire yourself and
your organization with others. It is a time to
"network." It is late nights spent spent in a hotel
lobby discussing how many steam fire engines are
left in the country, or the merits of the latest
musuem collections database program. It's great
friends, good food, lots of walking and talking and
a great time all around!
Dear Fire Museum Friends,
I invite you to attend the 15th annual Fire
Museum Network seminar to be held in conjunction
with Fire-Rescue International in Dallas, Texas.
The seminar will be held on August 22-25, 2003,
and will provide programs that should be
beneficial to you in the development and
operation of your fire museum.
Members of the Fire Museum Network met in Dallas
to conduct an extensive review of the
organization and to prepare for this year's
seminar. The program planning committee, chaired
by Scott Simpson of the Texas
State Fire Museum is organizing a superb
seminar agenda including a barbecue dinner at
the Texas Fire Museum.
Our seminar is one of the best that we have
prepared and I am sure you will find that the
topics chosen will pique your interest. The
agenda is being finalized and will be sent to
you in early June. Topics will include apparatus
maintenance and restoration, fund raising ideas
and grant writing, a presentation from our
member museums and visits to local fire
apparatus collections.
If you have not yet become a member of the
Network, remember that members receive a
discount on seminar registration. Please remit
your dues ($50 per museum, $25 per single) to:
Fire Museum
Network
4349 Hillside Road
Slinger, WI 53086
Attendance at the seminar is also the most
cost effective way to visit the exhibits at Fire
Rescue International, with over 400 apparatus,
equipment and related manufacturers in
attendance.
Hotel reservations must be made prior to July
1st. You can always cancel a reservation, but it
is very difficult to make reservations at the
last minute. Your hotel reservation form must
accompany your seminar registration form. I
recommend that you make your housing request now
to avoid disappointment.
Please contact me if you have any questions or
concerns and make plans to come to Dallas and be
a part of this year's program.
Sincerely,
Bob Vallero

Fire Museum Seminar Registration and Housing
Forms
As always, we need you to fill out two separate
forms - a Fire Museum
Seminar Registration Form and a Hotel
Reservations Form. The Fire Museum Network has
a block of 30 rooms being
held at the Wyndham Hotel Dallas Market
Center (located across from the Wyndham
Anatole) that will be held until July 1,
2003. In order to secure a sleeping room, the
attached hotel reservation form must accompany your
seminar registration form. Any rooms not reserved
by Fire Museum Network attendees will be released
back to the hotel on July 1st for other FRI
conference attendees! Remember -- you can always
cancel a hotel reservation, but should the hotel
sell out, it will be very difficult to find
adequate housing.
Please fill in the both the seminar and housing
forms, print them out using your web browser's
"print" command, and mail or fax them in along with
your payment. Unfortunately we can not process any
e-mail reservations from the Fire Museum Network's
web site, and unlike last year, the "Fire Museum
Seminar" is not an option on this year's IAFC
online registration form.
