The 17th Annual Fire Museum Seminar
Columbus, Ohio • June 24-26, 2006


Held in Columbus, Ohio, immediately following the National SPAAMFAA convention, the 2006 Fire Museum Network Seminar was hosted by Central Ohio Fire Museum.

SPAAMFAA National Convention -Fire Apparatus Muster (bus transportation will be provided for those who wish to arrive early and enjoy this event)

Opening remarks, introductions & information (Bob Vallero, President, Fire Museum Network and Bill Hall, Program Chair)

Breakfast on your own at the hotel

Presentation: "The Central Ohio Fire Museum Story" (William Hall, COFM)

Meet in hotel's Buckeye Room for remarks and information, before walking across the street to the COFM

Guided tour : Walk across the street for a tour Central Ohio Fire Museum - The building; present and future, and fire history displays

9:15 am

Presentation : "Managing a gift shop" Co-op purchasing and consignment sales (Sue Hudak, Dick Byrd, COFM)

Guided tour : "Safety Street" exhibit at Columbus Fire Museum (George Hudak, COFM)

Presentation: "Creating a Visual Hierarchy Using Captions and Objects" (Bill Mahon, Exhibit Design, Ohio Historical Society) Learn some of the basic techniques the Ohio Historical Society‘s exhibit design department uses in its exhibits to display a wide range of collections. This workshop will cover ways to create a basic visual hierarchy established between captions and objects; techniques that can be used to produce your own captions, as well as suggested object groupings and the layering of secondary interpretative information.
